Charges have been dropped against Republican Baltimore County Executive nominee and former state Delegate Pat McDonough.

Former GOP Baltimore County Executive nominee Darren Badillo announced he was filing charges against McDonough after photos surfaced that appeared showing McDonough taking a Badillo sign in May.

After being defeated in the primary by McDonough, Badillo immediately endorsed the GOP nominee.

Now Badillo announced on social media that he was dropping all charges against McDonough. The statement is below:

“I can understand how some Republican voters could be a little confused or taken aback by my action to drop the case against Pat McDonough. Very simply my decision was based on two things

“1. Justice served by our highly effective Republican County Central Committee.
Everyone knows that Pat is guilty, and that he did exactly what the picture shows him doing in removing my signs. I thank our wonderful central committee for taking up this issue and coming back with a decision. They used the harshest terms to directly connect Pat To this heinous behavior and put it on the record.

“2. What’s best for the party to get a Republican elected.

The decision to pursue Pat’s actions in the courts was made while I was a candidate for county executive. Because I am no longer a candidate for county executive, I have nothing more to gain. I took the high ground and thought of my party. I would rather see a republican candidate fighting for our county and for our people then spending their time in a courtroom fighting about malicious activities

“Instead of the media or even Pat rehashing this issue . There is an opportunity here, with 3 months left, for Pat to bring All republicans, democrats and independents together behind his message to positively change This county.

“Stop all the Bickering back-and-forth with fellow republicans, and instead tell us, what we can do to help you win this county.

I consider this matter closed . let’s win an election.”
