Larry Hogan to Run for U.S. Senate

Former Gov. Larry Hogan has announced and officially filed to run for U.S. Senate in Maryland.

There is an open seat after Democrat Ben Cardin announced he is retiring.

Here is ths statement that Hogan released:

“It’s official – I’m running for the United States Senate to fight for Maryland and fix the broken politics in Washington! The vast majority of Marylanders, I’m completely fed up with politics-as-usual and the politicians in Washington who are more interested in arguing than getting anything done for the people they represent,” Hogan said.

“Enough is enough. We can do so much better, but not if we keep electing the same kind of typical partisan politicians. That’s why I’m running – not to serve one party – but to stand up to both parties, fight for Maryland, and fix our nation’s broken politics. It’s what I did as Maryland’s governor, and it’s exactly how I’ll serve Maryland in the United States Senate. Let’s get back to work.”

There was speculation that Hogan was a possible candidate for U.S. Senate when Chris Van Hollen was up for reelection in 2022. Hogan declined that opportunity. Some wondered if he would consider the 2024 race when Cardin announced his retirement.

The Democratic side of this race has been competitive as Congressman David Trone and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks are battling for that nomination
