Top Races to Watch on Maryland Primary Day

Today is Election Day. Here are the top races to watch on Primary 2024.
I couldn’t find a full ten and many of the races have a predictable outcome. There are some interesting races, but the most excitement about the other races is trying to predict margin of victory for the favorites.
9. Joe Biden vs. Democratic field.
The president has two unknown candidates facing him. The question is how many anti-Biden votes will both pick up?
8. Donald Trump vs. Nicki Haley
Much like Biden’s race, this is a referendum on the former president too. Of course Trump wins since she dropped out months ago, but can Haley put up respectable numbers for the anti-Trump vote? Unlike Biden’s two opponents, Haley is a household name. It will be interesting to see if Hogan Republicans vote for her out of spite.
7. Congressional District 2-GOP
As I mentioned in last post, Kim Klacik is going to win this primary, but by how much?
6. Congressional District 2-Democrat
As I also mentioned in the last post, this Johnny Olszewski-Harry Bhandari primary had a chance to be a battle but there has been no Bhandari buzz. Who knows. Maybe this race is closer if Bhandari is working behind the scenes and maybe there is a strong anti-Olszewski vote in this District.
5. Maryland Senate-GOP
Larry Hogan is the presumed favorite, but Robin Flickr is definitely presenting himself as an alternative. Flickr has ran as the anti-Hogan/ pro Trump candidate. Some believe that this could result in another Dan Cox over Kelly Schultz moment. Even though Republicans might want to vote against Hogan, most will probably hold nose and vote for him. They want him to face the Alsobrooks-Trone winner. But it will be interesting to see what percentage will stick it to Hogan.
4. Congressional District 6-Democrat
This district race has not been as glamorous statewide as other the races but it should be wide open to replace David Trone’s old seat.
The top Democrats in these race are Delegate Lesley Lopez, Delegate Joe Vogel and April McClain Delaney, wife of former 6th District Congressman John Delaney.
I haven’t followed this race at all so I have no idea who will win.
3. Congressional District 3-Democrat
This appears to be a race between Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and state Sen.Sarah Elfreth.
Delegates Terri Hill and Mark Chang and Sen. Clarence Lam are the other elected officials in this race but they appear to be long shots to win John Sarbanes’ open seat. However; never estimate a candidate in office. They have a base and number ID.
Side note: How do the Republicans not field a strong candidate for this race. As I mentioned, Congressional District 2 GOP candidate Nicolee Ambrose had to deal with the Republican at the top of the ticket getting crushed in the Gubernatorial race, the left using abortion to fear monger and mail-in ballots breaking four to one for Democrats, and she still managed to pick 40 percent of the vote. GOP CD-3 candidate Yuripzy Morgan had to also face the same issues and still received nearly 40 percent of the vote in her race too.
2. Congressional District 6-Republican
This looks like a battle between two-time nominee Neil Parrott and 2022 Gubernatorial candidate Dan Cox. Parrott nearly defeated Trone in 2022 until the last round of mail-in ballots ended the race. Again, the winner of this race has a great opportunity to defeat the Democratic nominee in November.
1. Maryland Senate-Democrat
I think everyone will be glad that this over-hyped race between Alsobrooks and Trone is almost over. It is the most interesting race because we want to see who will face Larry Hogan in November.
