“Moderate” Democrats Vote to Legalize Transgender Surgery for Minors

There used to be a time when there were moderate Democrats in the state of Maryland. Those days are along gone as almost every Democrat in the House of Delegates voted in favor of HB 283- Maryland Medical Assistance Program – Gender-Affirming Treatment (Trans Health Equity Act). Some Democrats were present but did not cast a vote. Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes was the only Democrat to vote “no”.

This bill allows anyone under 18 to access taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgery, hormone therapy and puberty blockers.

“The insanity continues as the Maryland House passes HB 283, which basically amounts to taxpayer-funded child mutilation,” Del. Matt Morgan posted on social media, along with the vote board tally (pictured).

Again, Sample-Hughes was the only member of the Democratic party on the floor voted against this bill. That includes “moderates” such as Brooke Grossman, Nick Allen, Harry Bhandari, Carl Jackson, Chao Wu, Natalie Ziegler, Brian Crosby, Dana Jones, Heather Bagnall, Andre V. Johnson, Jr., Steve Johnson, and Michele Guyton.

Those Democrats are not “moderate” at all. If they were, they would have voted against this extreme bill. The only thing “moderate” about those Democrats is that they live in moderate districts.

Republican Del. Mark Fisher introduced an amendment that would only allow adults 18 and older access to gender reassignment surgery, hormone therapy and puberty blockers.

Not only did that amendment fail, those same “moderate” delegates voted against that amendment too. Del. Guyton was present, but did not vote on the amendment.
