Saab Running for Senate; Reilly Drops Out of Race

Delegate Sid Saab announced on Sine Die that he would run for state Senate in District 33.

“Maryland and Anne Arundel County are at a crossroads. As a first-generation immigrant, I truly appreciate and love the freedoms and opportunities that our great county, state, and country offers us all Americans,” Saab said in a Facebook statement on April 11.
“After much consideration with my wife and kids, I have decided to run for state senate in District 33. Serving the citizens of Anne Arundel County for 8 years in the House of Delegates, I’ve been a relentless advocate for lower taxes, fiscal discipline, and getting tough on crime.
I want to keep fighting for our families, for better schools” and for public safety in the Maryland State Senate

That seat is being currently held by fellow Republican Sen Ed Reilly.

After Saab made an announcement, Reilly announced that he would not seek reelection. Reilly filed for reelection in June 2021, but withdrew from the race a week after Saab filed.

Reilly released a joint statement with Saab.

“I’ve had the privilege of a lifetime serving the people of Anne Arundel County, at the county and state level. I think our work has made a difference for our community, and I leave public office very optimistic about the future for my beloved county and state,” Reilly said.

“I think District 33 will be in great shape with Sid Saab as our next senator. Sid is a fighter who cares deeply about his constituents and has a demonstrated ability to get the job done in the General Assembly. He has my support and my endorsement for the Senate seat”.

Saab is now unopposed in the Republican primary and will face Democrat Dawn D. Gile, who also does not have a primary opponent.
