Can Campbell Turn Baltimore County Council Republican?

One of the local races that could draw interest statewide is the Baltimore County Council race in District 6.

This is now an open seat after Democratic Councilwoman Cathy Bevins announced she was retiring after this year.

The Baltimore County Council currently has a 4 to 3 Democratic advantage, but Republican Tony Campbell wants to flip that seat to the GOP.

The Towson University professor is the only Republican candidate in the race and many Republicans feel Campbell can win that vacant seat.

“I am honored to announce I will be on the ballot in November as the Republican nominee for Baltimore County Council District 6,” Campbell said on April 18 when it was revealed he was running unopposed in the GOP Primary.
“My goal is to visit our vibrant local business community and knock on a lot of doors in every part the district over the next 30 weeks. I need your help with door knocking, sign waving, sign locations and hosting house parties to meet your neighbors in the district!”

According to his website, Campbell served in the U.S. Army and as an Army Chaplain.

Campbell ran for U.S. Senate in 2018 against Senator Ben Cardin so he has campaign experience and a lot of name ID.

If Democratic County Executive John Olszewski is reelected to a second term (although Pat McDonough entered the race last week), it would be interested to see how Olszewski would react to a majority GOP Baltimore County Council.

He would no longer be able to ram through his agenda without checks and balances from the council.

It would be a huge gain for Republicans in Baltimore County.
