Mangione Appointed to County Council; Who Gets His Delegate Seat?

Nino Mangione has been selected as the new County Councilman for District 3.

Former Councilman Wade Kach was planning to retire at the end of his term in December but announced he was stepping down in early May due to health reasons.

Mangione was one of many Republicans to file to run for Kach’s old seat before his suddenly resignation. Theaux M. LeGardeur was the other Republican to file for that seat.

Red Free State suggested it was in the best interest for the primary to select a non candidate that didn’t file for the race, but the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee  selected Mangione. In fairness LeGardeur didn’t apply.

The bigger issue now is Mangione’s old District 42A  House of Delegate seat. Mangione didn’t file for reelection so his seat has always been open for the June primary.

Alexander Harlan, Dan Katz and Charles Edward Murphy, III filed on the Republican side.

Will one of them get appointed, will the central committee appoint a non-candidate, or is it possible to leave that seat open until after the primary?

It took three weeks to announce a successor for Kach. The primary is scheduled for June 23.

Can we wait until June 24 to appoint the eventual Republican nominee to the District 42A seat?
