Will Republicans Finally Support Dan Cox?
Dan Cox is the Republican nominee for Governor. There are many Republicans that don’t believe Cox can beat Wes Moore in November and that’s fair.
Some of those Republicans supported Ed Hale over Cox because they felt he was more electable against Moore. That might have been true but will these same Republicans now endorse Cox since he is the nominee?
It doesn’t matter if Cox can’t win independents or moderate Democrats. He should do well with the Republican base so why aren’t Republicans supporting Cox based on principal?
Most Republicans claim to be conservative so why aren’t they supporting Cox?
Many of these “conservative” Republicans had no trouble supporting former Democrat Ed Hale and that includes a few members of the Freedom Caucus.
Maybe if elected Republicans started to support Dan Cox it could start to build his credibility with independents and moderate Democrats.
In 2022, it was political suicide to support Cox because he was running against the Democratic darling Wes Moore and the “perfect” Republican Governor Larry Hogan didn’t support him
Four years later, Larry Hogan doesn’t look so invincible after losing to Angela Alsobrooks in ’24 and Moore’s failed policies have been scrutinized all over the state.
Can Cox win in November? Maybe or maybe not but its the job of the Democrats and independents to reject Cox- not Republicans
Marylanders want an alternative to Wes Moore and it is Dan Cox. He earned it with a win over Hale and its time Republicans got on board to support him.
