Hornberger and McComas Trying to Survive Primaries

Harford County Del. Susan McComas (District 34B) and Cecil County Del. Kevin Hornberger (District 35B) are in a battle to win their respective primaries.

Challenger Jay M. Ellenby was leading McComas on Election Night 2,045 to 2,011. McComas is now up by 117 votes after the first rounds of mail-in ballots. Provisional and another around of mail-in ballots still need to be counted in that race

Hornberger is holding on to a 1,555 to 1,457 to 1,021 lead in a three-way race with Cecil County Sheriff Office sergeant Adam Streight and Rising Sun Mayor Travis Marion. Hornberger was beating Streight by 43 votes on Election Night and that lead has grown to 98 votes after the first round of mail-in ballots.

This race will also be determined by Provisional and another around of mail-in ballots.

So why are both candidates struggling in the primary?

McComas has faced some controversy last session when she made a statement that “Black fathers aren’t as prevalent as they were in the 40s and 50s

Hornberger might not be punished for any controversy but perhaps for his wife Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger.

Mrs. Hornberger upset the applecart by defeating former County Executive Alan McCarthy in 2020. Now McCarthy supporters could be taking out their frustrations on The Hornbergers by voting for one of Kevin’s opponents.

Who knows?
