Republicans React to Proposed Special Session
It has been reported that the Democrats in Annapolis plan to call for a Special Session this summer to pass Gerrymandered Congressional maps.
The Democrats wanted to pass this maps during the 2026 Legislative Session but Senate president Bill Fugerson didn’t bring the bill out for a vote.
Fugerson either had a change of heart or was worried about the primary.
The irony is that some Delegates and Senators could be defeated in their primaries on June 23 and would still go to Annapolis.
Fugerson could become one of those politicians.
House Minority Leader Delegate Jason Buckel told the Baltimore Sun that Republican lawmakers were not consulted about the plan session.
House Minority Whip Delegate Jesse Pippy it is all about the Democrats gaining more powrr5“It’s beyond disappointing that Maryland Democrats would rather spend their time eliminating the voices of the minority party, rather than addressing the important issues our citizens face,” he told the Sun.
The Maryland Freedom Caucus also released a statement condemning the planned Special Session.
“In a republic, voters choose their politicians. In a Banana Republic, politicians choose their voters. That is exactly what Governor Moore and Annapolis Democrats are trying to do. This reported July special session is not about fair maps, fair representation, or good government. It is a raw partisan power grab designed to rewrite the Maryland Constitution so Democrats can gerrymander away Maryland’s last Republican congressional district.”
