Miele & Mautz Win State Senate Primary; District 1 Too Close

Del. Johnny Mautz easily defeated incumbent state Sen. Addie Eckardt 77 to 23 percent in District 37 on the Eastern Shore. Mautz will face Democrat Naomi Hyman in November.

Former Del. Christian Miele also had an easy victory over Harford County businessman Walter “Butch” Tilley in District 34. Miele moved to the Harford County district from Perry Hall but his residence was not an issue in a dominant 76 to 24 percent win over Tilley. Miele will now face former delegate Mary-Dulany James who defeated current Del. Mary Ann Lisanti in the Democratic primary.

The race is District 1 is close as Del. Mike McKay is leading Allegany County Commissioner Jake Shade by over 1,600 votes for Sen. George Edwards’ vacant seat. The race became interesting when Edwards endorsed Shade. All Early Voting and Election Day ballots have been counted. This race will come down to absentee ballots.
