Mautz to Challenge Eckardt in District 37 Senate

Johnny Mautz wants to go from a Delegate to a state Senator and he is challenging District 37 state Senator Addie Eckardt on the Eastern Shore.
This might seem like a controversial move as Eckardt is also a Republican, but Mautz explained that Eckardt is not acting like a Republican. He added that his opponent has been in Annapolis since 1994 and is part of the Annapolis machine.
“Sen. Eckardt voted for, not AGAINST, the largest tax increase proposal in Maryland history – a $3.8 BILLION per year tax increase in the name of “public education reform.” Sen. Eckardt then voted to sustain Gov. Hogan’s veto but just last week during our debate with the Dorchester Chamber she praised it with her support,” Mautz said on social media.
“Sen. Eckardt claimed to be against sanctuary status for illegal immigrants, but in fact, she was the ONLY Republican to vote to give illegal immigrants the right to claim Maryland’s Earned Income Tax Credit. Thanks in part to Sen. Eckardt’s vote, this new law costs Maryland taxpayers more than $65,000,000 a year!”
There was also another controversial issue with Eckardt, as a mailer was sent out with photo of her and Congressman Andy Harris. According to Harris, the mailer appeared to be a Harris endorsement of Eckardt, which the Congressman said was not true.
Mautz was also critical of Eckardt on the Harris mailer.
“Sen. Addie Eckardt sent [a mailer] containing several false statements and inferences. Let’s correct the record. First, Congressman Andy Harris is NOT supporting Sen. Addie Eckart,” Mautz said.
“The simple fact is that she’s been going to Annapolis for 28 years and has become part of the Annapolis establishment and this mail is another example.”
It is hard to determine if Eckardt’s team sent the mailer as residents in the district said there was no authority line on the flier.
According to campaign finance reports, Eckardt has over $72,000 in the bank. Mautz has over $92,000.
If you live in District 37, expect to receive a lot more mailers and look to see signs on the highway and newspaper ads. This race will get expensive.
