Five GOP Senators Receive Perfect Score on Economic Voting Record

The grades are in from the Maryland Free Enterprise Foundation as their “Roll Call” grades tell the public how the legislators voting helps or hurts the Maryland economy.

Most of the bills listed are harmful to businesses and the economy such as zero emissions for vehicles, the Fair Wage Act of 2023, private passenger motor vehicle liability insurance and others.

There were only two pieces of legislation that were deemed “positive” by the group. “The Keep Our Heroes Home” Act and creating a Taxpayer Advocate Division within the Comptroller’s Office.

All of these bills were passed and signed into law.

Five Senate Republicans received a perfect score of 100 percent: Paul Corderman (D-2), John Salling (D-6), J.B. Jennings (D-7), Jack Bailey (D-29) and Mary Beth Carozza (D-38).

To compare the contrast in the two political parties, Chris West (D-42) had the lowest Republican score at 63 percent and that was better than the highest Democrat ranking of Mary Dulany-James (D-34) at 57 percent.

Most Democrats at least received 25 percent since they voted for the “Keep Our Heroes Home” Act and the “Taxpayer Advocate Division”.

Alonzo Washington (D-22) received 17 percent and Joanne Benson (D-24) received 14 percent since they were absent during one of those two votes.
