Time to Hold Democrats Accountable for Attack on Women’s Sports

– Del. Kris Fair made an unfavorable motion on HB 47, but did he threw his Democratic colleagues under the bus?-
Most Republican bills in the General Assembly don’t come out for a vote. Sometimes the non-controversial Republican bills, such a tax credits, will get passed. Most of the controversial bills sit in the drawer.

Then there are times when the Democratic leadership will bring out a controversial bill out in committee just to vote it down to make a point. They were known for bringing out former Del. Neil Parrot’s voter id bills and voted them down in the past because they believe their constituents are against voter id.

They brought out Delegate Nino Mangione’s bill HB 25 Public Schools – Sexually Explicit Materials – Prohibited in Libraries and Media Centers. bill and voted that down.

However; the bill that Democrats love to vote down is Del. Kathy Szeliga’s bill HB 47 Fairness In Girls’ Sports Act. It would not allow biological men to play in women sports.

The Democrats voted it down in 2023 and now the 2024 version of the bill didn’t even start in a subcommittee. The bill was brought out in full committee in Ways and Means one day after the bill hearing. It was given unfavorable by Democratic Del. Kris Fair and all the Democrats voted to approve his unfavorable.

All Republicans on that committee voted against the unfavorable (which means they supported the bill). Fair was highly offended by this bill and he wanted to send a quick message to Szeliga and any other Republicans that this bill is not welcomed here. All of the Democrats present in that committee had to fall in line.

But here is a question for Democrats, are they sure that their constituents want biological men playing in women’s sports or did they vote against this bill because Fair was offended? The smart thing for the Democrats to do was leave the bill in the drawer. Now there is a record of all Democrats in the Ways and Means committee voting against women’s sports.

Sure this vote won’t hurt left-wing politicians like Fair who is from a super blue district, but Eric Ebersole, Brooke Grossman and Shaneka Henson are all in moderate districts and their constituents probably won’t appreciate the attack on women sports.

Henson was concerned about some of the injuries that were reported during athletic competition with the biological element. “All people, students and athletes need to be safe,” she said during the vote, but she decided to vote against this particular bill because she didn’t think it would be considered constitutional by the courts.

The only Democrat that may have lucked was Chao Wu. He was absent for this year’s vote. He barely won his seat in 2022, but he was on record for voting against the bill in 2023.

I’m sure many of these Democrats didn’t want a vote on this bill but Fair wanted to that bill killed immediately and didn’t care if he threw anyone under the bus.

Now that there is a voting record with these Democrats against women sports, will their Republican opponents hold them accountable next election?
