Democrats Trying to Tax All Services Again

In 2020, Del. Eric Leudtke introduced a bill that services such as haircuts, lawn care, car repairs, lawyer fees, accountant fees, tax preparer fees, cleaning services and much more everyday services would be listed under the sales tax.

The bill hearing for HB 1628 lasted for over eight hours and over 100 people testified against this bill.

The Democrats were so rattled by the opposition, they brought the bill out in Ways and Means for a vote and give it an unfavorable along with all the Republicans.

Just when you think the Democrats have learned their lesson, Majority Leader David Moon (pictured) has brought out the bill again (HB 1515) to tax good and services.

It is too early to tell if Democrats are introducing this bill to “feel the temperature in the room”. It’s hard to believe the opposition from the business owners across the state will decease from 2020, but Democrats might ignore the public opposition and just pass this bill.

The state is facing a structural deficit with this new Governor and the General Assembly spending issues.

We know there are enough rank and file Democrats to pass this bill, if they want it passed.

There is a bill hearing on Monday in Ways and Means starting at 11 a.m.
