Republicans Trying to Win 9th Senate and 9B House Seat
It appears gerrymandering took place in District 9 too in this northern Howard County district.
SENATE
Former Republican Sen. Gail Bates was upset by her Democratic challenger Katie Fry Hester in 2018. Republican nominee Reid Novotny would easily be favored against Hester in the 2022 race in the old district.
The new district makes this 50/50. Novotny can and should still win, but it will be a much tougher battle.
District 9A
Republican Trent Kittleman is in good position to get reelected and newcomer Republican Jianning Jenny Zeng should retain Novotny’s seat.
District 9B
This going to be tough for Republican challenger Lisa Kim. Her race against Democratic Del. Courtney Watson is listed as “Slight Democrat” but the race is closer to “Steady Democrat” than 50/50. Lisa Kim has ran a good campaign and a red wave might propel her to defeat Watson.
