Buckel Selects Pippy As His Minority Whip

There are multiple reports Maryland House of Delegates Minority Leader Jason Buckel has selected Del. Jesse Pippy to become the GOP’s new Minority Whip.

Pippy would become the third Minority Whip since Buckel became Minority Leader in April 2021. Buckel was elected by House Republicans at the end of the 2021 Session along with Del. Chris Adams as Minority Whip. Adams never made it to the 2022 Session as he resigned in December 2021.

Del. Haven Shoemaker replaced Adams for the 2022 Session but did not seek re-election in the House of Delegates as he successfully ran for State’s Attorney in Carroll County.

So Pippy will run alongside Buckel in a Republican Caucus Election on Tuesday before the start of session. The question most Republicans want to know is if they will be opposed?

Before the start of the 2022 Session, Adams resigned and joined forces with Del. Matt Morgan to try to take over the Minority Leader position away from Buckel.

After a tough election for Republicans in 2022, the Senate GOP selected new leadership. Will we see new leadership in the House or at least a challenge in leadership?
