Cox & Hale Campaigns Respond to Democratic Mailer
It didn’t take long for the Cox and Hale campaigns to respond to the Democratic mailer that was sent out on Monday that labeled Cox as a conservative and highlighted Hale switching parties. Both campaigns agreed the Democrats shouldn’t be getting involved in their race.
First the Hale campaign responded.
“It’s official. The Democrats want Cox.
Wes Moore is afraid to face Ed Hale in the General election so Democrats are desperately trying to pick a candidate that’s guaranteed to lose. Democrats propped up Dan Cox last time,” said a statement from the Hale campaign.
Cox also condemned the mailer sent out by the Democrats.
“Today, I was made aware of a dirty and disgusting tactic by the Maryland Democratic Party appearing to interfere and meddle in the Republican primary,” Cox said.
“First, I denounce this interference with our elections and absolutely false attack on Republicans such as myself as being ‘too conservative.’ Wes Moore is so out of touch with the difficulties he has caused Marylanders that he campaigns around the country and ignores our pain.”
Hale used Cox’s response to take a shot at him for running away from the “conservative” label
“First Dan Cox is endorsed by Democrats, because they know he can’t beat Wes Moore. Now he’s complaining about being seen as “too conservative”. Well I became unapologetically Conservative in 1975 when I signed the front of a paycheck for the first time. I’ve signed tens of thousands since,” Hale wrote.
“I know what it takes to restore affordability and bring good jobs to Maryland. The job of Governor is an executive position. What Maryland needs now is someone who has actually put conservative principles into action, as an executive, over the course of half a century. Principles that have resulted in the economic renaissance of Canton, saving the port of Baltimore and transforming the lives of thousands of families with affordable mortgages.
“What we dont need is someone who will back away from his principles when the going gets tough. Which is what Dan Cox just did. If he can’t stand up to Democrat pressure now, he surely won’t be able to stand up against Wes Moore.”
