Cox Goes Outside Baltimore to Defeat Hale in GOP Primary

It is Dan Cox vs. Wes Moore again. We will have plenty of time to debate Cox’s chances, but let’s look at his victory over Ed Hale.

It appears that this primary was a regional primary. Hale is known in the Baltimore region and it showed. Hale had an impressive 14,358 to 6,154 over Cox in Baltimore County and won in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties.

Cox did well outside the Baltimore area in Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore, but it wasn’t the deep red counties that put Cox over the top. Cox easily defeated Hale in blue Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.

The narrative wasn’t the hard core conservative vs. the former Democrat.

This was about a candidate (Hale) who was well known in the Baltimore region but had little name recognition outside of central Maryland.

Baltimore area Republicans might prefer Hale over Cox, but Republicans in the other jurisdictions choose Cox for
different reasons. They main reason is probably because they never heard of Hale.
