Business-to-Business and Sugary Tax Bills Die

Maryland Republicans announced that two controversial tax increases are dead this session.

HB1469 would have placed a tax on sugary drinks.

HB 1554/SB 1045 would have create a 2.5 percent business-to-business tax on services

The House GOP released statement about defeating the bills

WE DID IT!!!! YOU DID IT!!!!! Governor Moore has just announced the SLUSH TAX is dead and that a BROAD-BASED BUSINESS TO BUSINESS TAX IS OFF THE TABLE!

“Congratulations to our Republican members of Ways & Means and Senate Budget & Tax and the hundreds of businesses and individuals who came to Annapolis to fight these taxes!

“Our fight is far from over, the appetite for new taxes is still high – we do not yet know what a modified business-to-business tax will look like.

“Maryland families and businesses are still not safe from a sneak-a-tax. The members of the House Republican Caucus and the Maryland Senate Republicans will continue our fight for YOU!”
