Absentee Ballots Wiping Out Republicans

As expected, absentee ballots are breaking for Democrats and are taking out Republicans.

Anne Arundel County has become problematic for Republicans this year. The absentee ballots in that county were submitted late and races are starting to shift towards the Democrats.

In the Anne Arundel County Executive race GOP challenger Jessica Haire had a comfortable over Democratic incumbent Stu Pittman 62K to 49K. As of Nov. 19, Pittman started to take a lead over Haire. Pittman is now up 114K to 98K. He is amazingly beating her in absentee ballots 42K to 16K.

Another tough race for Republicans to digest is the District 33 races. Democrat Andrew C. Pruski was far ahead of Republican Kim Mills in the vacant District 33A race and Republican Stuart Michael Schmidt, Jr. was up big against his Democratic opponent in District 33B races but District 33C and the District 33 Senate races have now shifted Democrat.

Del. Sid Saab was up 20K to 17K on Election Night for Sen. Ed Reilly’s vacant state Senate seat in District 33. Saab is now down 34K to 20K after the latest round of absentee ballots.

Republican challenger Kerry Gillespie has been a nice surprise as she has been the only Republican that has gone toe-to-toe with a Democratic incumbent. She had been leading Del. Heather Bagnell since Election Night and was cling to a small lead after early rounds of absentee ballots but Bagnell has taking the lead. Gillespie has fought hard either way.

In Harford County, former Del. Glen Glass was in position to take his old seat in District 34A as he had a lead on Election Night but absentee ballots have put Glass in third place behind the two Democrats in the two-member district.

Republican Christian Miele is trying to hold on to Bob Cassilly’s vacant seat in that same Harford County district.
Miele was winning until the absentee ballots have put his Democratic opponent in the lead. He is down by 600 votes. Miele might still be able to win this race.

Another Republican in trouble is Del. Trent Kittleman in District 9A in Howard County. She was winning after Election Day and after the absentee ballots were counted but the first round of provisional have now placed her in third place in this two-member district. Kittleman is down by 10 votes.
