Miele Appointed to State Senate for a Week

Maryland Matters reported that former 8th District Del. Christian Miele was appointed to the State Senate in District 34.

Many Republicans were initial shocked by the news after Miele lost to Democrat Mary-Dulany James for Sen. Ed Cassilly’s vacant seat.

Did Miele win the election after all? No. Dulany James still won and will become District 34’s new senator on Wednesday.

When Cassilly was sworn in as new Harford County Executive, he had to give up his seat before his term ended on Jan. 11.

Since Republicans still hold that seat until Wednesday, they needed to fill it with a Republican. That created an opportunity for Miele.

It is for only one week but Miele can now add State Senator to his resume.
