Dyer Not a Lock to Win Baltimore Co. Executive Primary
Baltimore County has not had a Republican County Executive since Roger Hayden was elected in 1990.
It’s going to be another tough battle in 2026 but Republicans are confident that business man Pat Dyer can be a formidable nominee for the GOP in November.
He should be able to raise money and has the business background to compete with the Democratic nominee.
The only problem is can he get through the primary?
This is similar to 2022 when Republican Gubernatorial candidate Kelly Schultz was scheduled to face the Democratic nominee for Governor, but she took the 2022 primary for granted and lost to Dan Cox.
Dyer has ran a low-key campaign and only raised just under $20,000 at this point.
It appears he is waiting to June 24 to begin his campaign against the Democratic nominee, but his campaign might be over by the evening of June 23.
He is facing a familiar name, Kim Stansbury, who ran for County Executive in 2022.
Stansbury, who is known as “Mama Bear”, could realistically win a school board, county council or a House of Delegates seat, but would have trouble winning a countywide race with less than $4,000 in the bank.
Although Dyer would probably perform better countywide against a Democrat compared to Stansbury, he could very easily lose to “Mama Bear” on June 23.
As a returning candidate, Stansbury has plenty of name recognition from 2022.
If Dyer doesn’t campaign hard over the next week, Stansbury could win the nomination.
