Maryland GOP Calling for Special Session to Stop Gas Tax Hike

Maryland House and Senate Republicans are requesting for a Special Session to address the automatic increases in Maryland’s gas tax.

The gas tax will increase by 10 percent on July 1.

“Governor Moore has also voiced his concerns about the impact of these automatic increases. Marylanders should not have to wait until January for action on this important issue,” the Maryland House & Senate Republican Caucus said in a statement.

The Republicans also pointed out that the House of Delegates had the opportunity to eliminate the automatic tax increases in 2023 Legislative Session.

“A bill (HB 422) and a floor amendment both sponsored by Delegate Matt Morgan would have saved Marylander’s from this 10 percent tax increase,” said a joint statement from both GOP Caucus.

“Unfortunately, these efforts were rejected by our Democratic colleagues in favor of these continued automatic tax hikes.”
