Myrick had opportunity to become GOP nominee, but never took advantage
The race for the Republican nomination for Governor is between Ed Hale and Dan Cox.
Many don’t like Hale because he is a Democrat turned Republican and many don’t want to see Cox get doubled up in votes by Wes Moore again in 2026.
There is always the person that ask “What about John Myrick?”
That’s a great question.
The Maryland Wire wrote a column after the filing deadline asking if Myrick could win the nomination since Cox and Hale weren’t impressing GOP voters?
Even though that site is left-winged, it was a fair column and made the following points;
“• John Myrick listens.
• – John Myrick shows up.
• – John Myrick is running a real campaign.
• – John Myrick can unite Republicans without alienating independents.
• – John Myrick is the only candidate with visible, organic momentum.”
Of all the candidates running for Governor on both sides, Myrick would probably make the best Governor, but why is he a distant third?
A good candidate needs to have charisma and a connection with voters.
Myrick has been on the campaign trial for two years and only has raised less than $10,000 since mid January. In comparison, Hale raised over $250,000 within that same time frame.
Some of his supporters will argue that Myrick is the underdog and the special interests only support the establishment candidates.
That might be true but why hasn’t he received more donations from small businesses and small $10 to $20 donations from everyday citizens?
It’s not just donations. Myrick has been running a statewide race for two years but only has less than 2,500 followers on Facebook. Hale has over 17,000 followers since he launched his campaign a few months ago.
No Facebook followers don’t vote but it shows how people are interested in a political campaign.
Unfortunately, Myrick is not connecting with voters and there is no excitement around his campaign.
And it’s a shame because he would make a great Governor and a better nominee than Hale or Cox.
He just never seized the opportunity.
