Five Republicans Get Low Business Grade from MFEF

The Maryland Free Enterprise Foundation scorecards have been released for 2025. The MFEF ratings are based on how a House of Delegates member or a Maryland state Senator voted on legislation pertaining to the business climate in Maryland.

The scores are based from 0 to 100.

If you take out Democratic District 37A Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes (who received a very impressive 75), Republicans did better on this scorecard than any of the Democrats.

The lowest GOP score in the House was District 33B Stuart M. Schmidt, Jr. at 56 and District 1 Senator Michael McKay had the lowest score for a Republican Senator at 64.

Those scores were still higher than the best Democratic scores of 50 by Senators Carl Jackson (District 8), Katie Fry Hester (District 9) and Shaneka Henson (District 30)

The Republicans that received a perfect score of 100.

The Democrat with the lowest score of 0 was Democratic District 00 Delegate Debra Davis.

Kim Ross of District 8 technically received a zero rating , but she was appointed halfway through the 2025 Session.

Samples Hughes’ score of 75 was better than two Republicans (Schmidt and McKay) and tied three other Republicans.
Don’t know if business owners should be impressed with Sample Hughes or disappointed in those five Republicans.
