Freedom Caucus Commends USOPC for Banning Men in Women’s Sports

The Maryland Freedom Caucus strongly supports the recent decisions by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and USAFencing to restore fairness and integrity in women’s athletics by requiring that female competitors be biological females.
“For too long, radical gender ideology has threatened to erase women’s sports,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga, Vice Chair of the Maryland Freedom Caucus.
“These decisions are a major victory for fairness, safety, and equal opportunity for girls and women across the country.”
Under the new USOPC directive, issued in compliance with President Trump’s executive order.
“Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” all Olympic and Paralympic women’s competitions will now be limited to biological females. USAFencing has followed suit, announcing that beginning Aug. 1, women’s categories will be protected for female athletes only.
“Too many girls and women have lost athletic records, titles, and college opportunities to biological men with obvious physical advantages. These long-overdue policy changes reflect common sense andscientific reality. They ensure that female athletes, who have trained, sacrificed, and competed for years, are not forced to face unfair competition from biological males,” Szeliga added.
“When I reintroduce the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act, I hope it gets a fair, full hearing, which allows public testimony from both sides of the discussion.”
“If my daughter had to compete against a man, it would be unfair to her and everything she has worked for,” said Delegate Matt Morgan, Freedom Caucus Chair.
“Women’s sports should remain exclusively for women, and the bold actions of the Trump Administration are ensuring protections for future female athletes.”
Delegate Szeliga is the sponsor of Maryland’s Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act, which would require junior varsity and varsity interscholastic athletes to compete onthe team of their biological sex.
Delegate Szeliga continues to defend the rightsof women and girls to have fair opportunities on and off the field.
