Ed Hale to Run for Governor as Republican

Baltimore County businessman Ed Hale announced back in the spring that he is running for Maryland Governor.
It was assumed the long time Democrat was going to challenge Governor Wes Moore in the primary but he announced this week he is switching parties and running as a Republican.
Hale admitted that he has little to no shot to defeat Moore in the Democratic primary.
The response on social media from voters of both parties do not approve of Hale switching parties but others didn’t seem to care as they want him (or anyone) to defeat Moore.
Hale joins a now suddenly crowded Republican primary. John Myrick and his running mate, former Delegate Brenda Thiam, jumped into the race early. Then current Delegate Chris BouchatĀ entered the race from Carroll County.
There is still talk that former Governor Larry Hogan could enter the primary.
Either way, it appears the Republicans will give Wes Moore a legitimate challenger in 2026
