Maryland Senate Republicans prefiled Constitutional Senate Bill 104 – Fair Districts for Maryland Act
This legislation was pre-filed to protecting the integrity of our elections is critically important.
If passed, this commonsense reform would:
– Prohibit using party registration, voting history, or incumbency to draw maps
– May not account for the domicile or residency of any individual, including an incumbent officeholder or a potential candidate for office
– Require three single-member delegate districts per legislative district
– Respect natural boundaries and the integrity of counties and municipalities
– Ensure districts are compact, contiguous, and community-based
It will be interesting to see how the Democrats in the Senate respond to this bill. Senate President Bill Ferguson has opposed the idea of mid cycle gerrymandering redistricting.
This is the perfect bill for Democrats to join forces with Republicans to stop gerrymandering in Maryland
